A child delivered in parts – the family speaks

The father of the child, Sabelo Khumalo, 23, told Sowetan that he wanted to be the father for the first time that day.

“When I saw my baby in pieces I couldn't believe my eyes because I was expecting so much.

He was also Kgatla's first son.

Kgatla said that the family said her family had been told before she was born that some of the boys had some unusual things, but she was ready to lift the child anyway.

"I don't understand why C-section hasn't been made. Instead, they pushed for a normal birth," said the uncle.

Gauteng health department sent a department patient safety team to the hospital to thoroughly examine the issue and obtain information from the medical team involved in this event.

In reciting yesterday, the department said they were recording the statements about the fetus in the hospital.

“Once the research is finished, we will share the findings and recommendations. If needed, disciplinary measures will be put in place, "she said." The hospital still offers counseling support to the patient and her family to help them cope with this unfortunate event.
