A 17-year-old child who was badly injured in Tauranga earlier this week has died at Starship Hospital today.
Officers were summoned to the Wednesday Maungatapu building at 4.30pm after reports of an injured child.
The baby entered Tauranga Hospital and was later transferred to Starship Hospital in an emergency.
A police spokeswoman said the current baby's 17 months had died in Starship Hospital.
The spokesman said the police were investigating why the child was seriously injured and the circumstances prior to the incident.
She saw a number of people collaborating with police investigations, she said.
When the The Plenty Times re-visiting the building yesterday, a single police officer stood standing close to the entrance of a unit closed by police tape.
