Injured Imrul the only change

Bangladesh opener Imrul Kayes has been ruled out of the second Test against the West Indies in Dhaka with shoulder and toe injuries. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) yesterday announced a 13-member squad without a replacement for Imrul.

The squad for the Dhaka Test remains similar to the one that had registered Bangladesh's first ever Test win against West Indies on home turf in Chattogram on Saturday. Chief selector Minhajul Abedin said that Imrul's injury will see him out of action for about 10 days.

"The medical report revealed that Imrul has injured his shoulder and toe. He will need 10 days to recover," Minhajul said.

Imrul, who scored two centuries and a 90 in the ODI series against Zimbabwe in October, has failed to emulate his run-scoring form in the longer version of the game. His 44 in the first innings of the first Test was built on the mercy of one dropped catch and a dismissal off a no ball. However, he had no such fortune in the second innings as he saw his stumps rattled after scoring just two from five balls.

Although it was injury that saw the left-hander out of the squad, his exclusion could also be justified on the basis of form after his disappointing showing with the bat in the first Test as well as the two preceding Tests against Zimbabwe.

Imrul's departure has increased the chances of newcomer Shadman Islam to make his debut in the final Test of the series as he remains the only regular opener in the side alongside Soumya Sarkar.

Squad: Shakib Al Hasan (C), Soumya Sarkar, Mohammad Mithun, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah Riyad, Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Mustafizur Rahman, Taijul Islam, Nayeem Hasan, Ariful Haque, Khaled Ahmed, Shadman Islam
