Mariss Janson will receive a Herbert von Karayan Prize / Day

The award is made annually to a musician of outstanding artistic achievement who has gained international recognition – in 2017, he received the piano and composer Daniil Trifonov, in cello 2018 Sola Gabeta.

Mariss Jansons is one of the few directors who a music manager such as the 20th century art legend, director Herbert von Karayan (1908 – 1989). The first two musicians met for the first time in 1968, when Karayan and Philharmonic Philharmonic were visiting the Soviet Union. Mr Jansons was the youngest of the twelve pupils who completed their skills in Karayan high-level classes. In 1971 Jansons won the Berlin von Karayan International Conductor Competition. This summer Mariss Jansons and the Bavarian Symphony Symphony Orchestra give two concerts in Latvia, opening a music festival t Riga Jurmala: July 19 – National Latvian audio is sound.
