Singapore Airlines claims title of World's Best Airline 2019

Nudges Air New Zealand down to 2nd place and Qantas to 3rd.

5-star full-service airline Singapore Airlines is on a roll this year. In July it was crowned the World's Best Airline by Skytrax based on passenger votes. Now, it's also taken out the World's Best Airline award by AirlineRatings.com.

Unlike the Skytrax awards, this list is judged by a small panel of seven editors and is based on a bespoke seven-star rating system across 12 key criteria, making it much more objective. The criteria that it's judged on includes fleet age, product offerings, environmental leadership, in-flight innovation and financial performance.

Passenger feedback is also considered and is based on an audit of customer feedback via the airlineratings.com website.

Singapore Airlines was particularly praised for providing a "new product, new aircraft and new innovative flights such as the Singapore-New York non-stop", said Airline Ratings Editor-in-chief Geoffrey Thomas.

Its winning bumped 5-time winner Air New Zealand down a spot to # 2 and Qantas down to # 3. Neither were left without some gold at the awards though. Air New Zealand scooped up top place for Best Premium Economy and Best Airline in the Pacific while Qantas took out Best Domestic Airline service and Best Lounge.

At the awards, Singapore Airlines also won Best First Class with its new Suites offering. This features six suites on the upper deck of the Airbus A380s and has been likened to a small hotel room.
