The fossil of a new tyrannosaur was found in Utah – and it is tiny in comparison to a more famous T. rex.
Meet Moros intrepidus, a small tyrannosaur who lived in Emery County Utah at Cretaceous times. At 96 million years old, the oldest Cretaceous tyrannosaur species still found in North America. He received a 70-million year gap in the dinosaurs record of the class.
And with a little, think about the size of deer deer. The makers were only 3 or 4 feet lower than the chrom. The sample found was estimated to have been over seven years old and has almost not grown considerably. The name means "expressing the mind".
Although there are middle-class tyrannosaurs found in North America dating back to Jurassic, (about 150 million years ago), the Tyrannosaurus rex appeared during Cretaceous (about 81 million years ago). Lindsay Zanno, a paleontologist at the North Carolina State University and the main author of a paper describing the investigation, before the Moran was discovered, palaontologists did not know how the dinosaur was tight of a relatively small hunter for A great apex we know – the fossil record was a pale slate.
"When and how soon tyrannosaurs from wallwalls are to the principle it has been causing paleontologists to worry for a long time," said Zanno in a press release. "The only way to attack this problem is to find out there and find out more about these rare animals."
Zanno and his team spent a ten year old dineosaur bone hunting inside rocks from the late Cretaceous. Eventually, they found their teeth and a poor arm from the Moros. Zanno showed that the Moros were so light and fast.
"These changes, together with a well-known and well-known abilities, are a terrible predator," said Zanno. "It could be easy to run down a raid, and avoid being in harmony with the high raiders of the day."
Finding the Moros palaeologists are going to & # 39; believe that T. rex was benefiting from the warming teas and rising sea levels at the end of Cretaceous.
Zanno said, "We know now that he has given them less than 15 million years to get to power."
