Thanksgiving Snow In Puget Sound Could Hinder Travel



SEATTLE, WA – Weather for Thanksgiving week in Puget Sound should be pretty standard, but the chance of snow at lower elevations in the Cascades could hinder travel. Right now, the forecast shows snow levels as low as 3,000 feet Thanksgiving and through the weekend.

The week will begin sunny and with pleasant temperatures in the mid-50s (and in the 30s overnight). But rain will set in starting Wednesday afternoon and will not let up before the end of the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, the rain will fall as snow in the mountains – including Snoqualmie pass (elevation: 3,015 feet) – beginning as early as Tuesday and continuing through the weekend.

Here's the forecast for the week close to sea level, according to the NWS:

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 54. Light south wind.

Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 38. Light south wind.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 55. Calm wind becoming south southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Tuesday Night: A 30 percent chance of rain after 5am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 41. South southeast wind 3 to 6 mph.

Wednesday: Rain likely, mainly after 11am. Cloudy, with a high near 53. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Wednesday Night: Rain. Low around 45. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Thanksgiving Day: Rain. Cloudy, with a high near 52.

Thursday Night: Rain. Cloudy, with a low around 45. Breezy.

Friday: Rain. Cloudy, with a high near 50.

Friday Night: Rain likely. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 43.

Wednesday: Rain and snow likely, becoming all rain after 10am. Cloudy, with a high near 40. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Wednesday Night: Rain. Low around 33. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Thanksgiving Day: Rain. High near 38. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Thursday Night: Rain before 10pm, then rain and snow. Low around 33. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Friday: Rain and snow, becoming all rain after 10am. Cloudy, with a high near 35.

Friday Night: Rain and snow likely. Cloudy, with a low around 31.
